Canon has unveiled a groundbreaking full-frame CMOS sensor with an unprecedented 410 megapixels, delivering a staggering 24K resolution—the highest ever achieved in a 35mm full-frame sensor. This sensor measures 24,592 x 16,704 pixels, enabling extreme detail and allowing users to crop and enlarge images significantly without losing quality. Despite its massive pixel count, the sensor fits into a standard full-frame format, making it compatible with existing lenses and aiding miniaturization of imaging equipment. It features advanced back-illuminated stacked design and redesigned circuitry for a super-fast readout speed of 3,280 megapixels per second, supporting 8 frames per second at full resolution and 100-megapixel video at 24fps with pixel binning. Targeted primarily for surveillance, medical, and industrial applications, this sensor represents a major leap in imaging technology and could influence future professional and cinematic cameras.

My computer just suffered heart failure after this report 😂

I have the Canon RP and that is more than enough for me :.-)

There are limits to what a lens can resolve that can not be overcome. The wavelengths of visible light can't be changed.
This is why semiconductor fabrication is now using ultra violet light to resolve those 4nm features.
Visible light wavelengths can not be used to make the smallest transistors.
Can an affordable visible light lens be made that can resolve 410 million pixels in a 24mm by 36mm area?

Just wait until you hear the price tag of the lens capable of resolving that high resolution! 😂
Instead of a lens case they're throwing in a Bentley to carry the lens around!

It looks like a 12 K 120 fps Video recording is in the pipe line and will be launched soon. Great innovation from Canon and probably will be followed by Nikon and Sony. Best regards from Egypt.

I'm still waiting for a sensor and lens that will allow me to take macro photos of a fly from a kilometer away. Until then, I'm still using my old Olympus OMD5

That is insane. Who is it for? Normal people would hardly need it

As said it will end up in industrial use at the beginning. Again it will be good for astrophotography.

We can probably stop at 12K. Whats the use.

There are no lenses available that can resolve this amount of detail.

What kind of technically incorrect video is that? It shows a camera with an EF lens, which is definitely not an EOS-R camera. I can't remember Canon using a 24K sensor in SLR cameras. You can't beat that kind of stupidity ...

All i can hear is a lot of yapping over the same points over and over again. Like yeah bud we heard its 24k you said that. And yeah its more res than 8k, but Resolution isnt everything to shsrpness and i get reverse goosebumps hearing you talk abput the zooming in post. Like why are you hiding usefull metrics and instead yap over the same two specs you do have, over abd over and over again. Terrible video and a waste of my time. Smh

Entonces como hace Samsung para poner sensores de 200mp?

utterly pointless. Who, apart from NASA, has a computer that could edit 24k...? Imagine the SSD card you would need!

Îl miglior sensore e’ il foveon, anche se ha parecchi limiti.
Purtroppo il management non ha saputo sfruttarne appieno le potenzialità.

We're all looking at this but y'all don't get something: The best GPUs one can get aren't quite optimized for 24K video...
