"I never thought I'd be sad in a place with so many taco's."

Poetic, isn't it?

I'm an aviation writer and many years ago (1988) my Houston newspaper rushed me to DFW to cover a Boeing 727 crash on the airport grounds. It took me less time to drive the 20 miles to the Houston airport and fly to Dallas than it did to get from the arrival gate to the crash site, about 1 mile away.

I was there once, too. It seemed like a design from purgatory. Am eternity of walking and never getting anywhere.

DFW is a great place to play 'Spy at the airport'
(Old George Carlin joke). "There's a spy at the airport. Your job, find him."

Been through DFW twice.
The food & shops are on the bottom. Terminal gates on top. The bathrooms are by the stairs

As a European who's pretty clueless of US geography I have no idea where DFW airport is and I doubt I'll ever use it but this amused me all the same... it's somehow relatable for anyone who's widely travelled!

DFW was designed before the hub and spoke became the industry standard. It is intended to be an embarkation and destination airport. The concept was that you would be dropped off curbside and walk right in to a ticket desk then right on through security (minus the current theater) and your gate would be right there. For arrivals the street and a taxi or bus would be just a short walk from your gate. Today that makes it's layout an eternal damnation of walking and God forbid you need to change terminals.

As a proud Dallas-ite I have to say... You are completely right. When that airport was first built, they had to hobble the more popular Love Field just so people would be forced to use DFW.

I have the worst luck with DFW airport every single time I have had a layover there my follow on flight has been delayed by several hours. One time though I was passing through there on the way home from a TDY and myself and a coworker wanted to smoke so we asked an employee where we could go to do that, she escorted us out an employees only door to smoke with us so we wouldn’t have to go all the way through security again.

I've never had a problem finding the bathroom at DFW. There's usually one close to the gates and I'm not a frequent traveler and I'm always looking for a bathroom.😊

DFW is Hughes and sprawling but the tram system is excellent. You got to use it. There's a restaurant I think it's Wolfgang Puck's restaurant, that serves really good ravioli. I walk about half a mile and use the tram to eat there every time I go.

No bathroom. Plenty of tacos. Do (do) the math.

Back in the 2000s I was part of the DFW Airport cross country team. There I was dressing out around 380 and jogging through one terminal to get to the exact opposite terminal cause it was faster than the tram. God help anyone that stepped in front of me. It would have been an inelastic collision of epic proportions.

Another DFW resident here. You nailed it. The process of reaching any terminal by road to pick someone up is like driving in a figure eight race. It's like someone tried to optimize being poorly optimized.

You are so right about DFW. The bathrooms are never anywhere near by.

I love DFW it is my home airport. It is extremely easy once you understand it.

Lol. Came back from Korea for the first time in forever with a plan to hit up a bunch of food during my DFW layover. Wondered if I could fit it all in. Little did I know by the time I got to the next spot on the list, I would be hungry and exhausted. At least it killed time.
