This is really cool. I was digging around to figure out metal lathe precision on my wood lathe. I would like to make some bespoke pens and I figured something like this could get me exactly straight lines on the outer of the pen. I have the tools to hold tap and die sets in my tailstock.

Chatter city, but that's ok. Not every project requires micrometer tolerances or precision finishes.
Sometimes you just want to be able to rough out the occasional part without the need for expensive equipment.

I would like to know where you got the XY clamping system. I have an antique Craftsman wood lathe which I would like to be able to cut metal on occasionally. That is if I can adapt a stable unit on

That's great! I have a similar setup on my lathe, but I struggle every time to ensure the parallelism, respectively, the perpendicularity of the cross slide with the lathe's longitudinal axis. How did you manage this?
