Lent gives us a space to sit in the darkness and heaviness of our own sin and brokenness so that we might better understand just how good the good news of the gospel really is.

The “Bad News” (our fallenness, inability to meet God’s standard of righteousness, inability to fulfill the law, sinful nature, totally estranged from Good cannot be understood or even heard until “Justification” occurs. Before “Justification”, a man is deaf, blind and spiritually dead to the spiritual things of God (Col. 2:13; Eph. 2:1-3; Eph. 5:8; Rom. 5:12-15 & more..) and cannot hear “the bad news” or “the good news”. It is only by grace, that proceeds even the faith to believe, which is a gift of God, so no man may boast (Eph. 2:4-10) that must take place first (Holy Spirit) which then “make the unbeliever/sinner alive”. It is only then that he can hear, understand and repent, in that order (Rom. 8:28-30)

Is it really true that bad news is a prerequisite to good news...seems like a logical fallacy. I think I see the narrative that is being put forth, but making such a sweeping statement as a predicate to saying what it is you want to say really steps on the message...just saying.
