Food Unwrapped Season 7

FOOD UNWRAPPED explores how our food is really made and the industry secrets behind our favourite produce. Reporters Matt Tebbutt, Jimmy Doherty and Kate Quilton travel the globe to discover just how the food we love is mass-produced. The series contacts supermarkets and manufacturers with simple questions about the food we buy, then visits the factories to investigate! Taking the cameras behind the doors of factories worldwide, the inquisitive food lovers meet food technicians, scientists, factory owners, growers, and producers in order to reveal weird and wonderful facts we never knew about our food.

I used to get macadamias in their shells occasionally when I lived in Colorado some years ago. Very hard to crack. I would find a sidewalk with a suitable-sized pit in it, put the nut in it, and whack it with a hammer. With practice I got pretty good at it. Then I had no macadamias for a few years.

The next time I tried one, already cracked, I’d become allergic to them.

Heaps of Macadamia nuts in Australia in the shells because they grow here naturally. All you need is a hammer to crack them and they taste so much better.

They're delicious both raw & roasted. Just a bit of salt is all they need!

I live in Tzaneen South Africa and we have tons of Macadamia farmers and processors here. We buy de-shelled macadamias direct from the factory.

If you think a macadamia is tough to crack, give it a bottle of whiskey.

I have actually seen macadamia sold in their shells. They come with slits on their shell an a small tool that works like an oyster knife, though with a longer leverage. You can pry it open with a twisting motion

The hardest nut in the world is Canarium Ovatum native to my city Sorsogon Philippines. It peirce through tires when they scared in the road. Usually we used big rock to cracked it

I foolishly planted a Macadamia tree in my yard in Southern California. It grows well here, but the squirrels, parrots, rats and crows all love them. Yes, there are parrots here, and yes, I know they were not indigenous to the region.
