Congratulations to James W Griffiths for his BAFTA award for Short Film for Room 8.

Room 8 is one of five different films from the same script: the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series. Seeking to spark the imagination, we asked Oscar winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher to write a short script stripped of any stage direction.
The five most imaginative film entries were picked, produced and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2013.

We cannot escape from problems. If we try to do so, we'll end up in the same place, with bigger problems, while we are weaker and smaller.

The moment he epon the box and touch his own finger is like a mirror facing to each other. Endless replica.

I think that the number 8 might stand for the fact that if you turn it on one side, it becomes the infnite symbol, like the dimension, where you endlessly go out of the box and back into another one.

It’s weird how he understands he’s just interacting with himself within the cell, but then still chooses to think escaping via the box lid is different suddenly

The only problem with this film is that it was too short!

My 19 year old son just showed it to me as they showed it to his college communications class. WOW...pretty cool actually, some people have the greatest imaginations! Congrats Mr. Griffiths.

The fine cinematography really helped capture the mood of this piece. The part where he looks back to touch the finger is certainly amazing.

I think the most sinister thing is that <SPOILERS> in the drawer at the end, the matchbox seen earlier is still vibrating furiously, one or two others are weakly stirring but most of them have become still. It's the unpleasant details that stick in the mind, don't you know...

(Speaking of which, director James W Griffiths probably saw a Doctor Who story called Planet of Fire at an impressionable age, methinks.)

I would spit until the cardboard softens and escape by scratching until I get a opening

Fun things to not do:
-open the box and turn it upside down
-open the box and throw it up to the bigger world
-open the box and hold it tight, pick up the smaller box, then let go the normal box

I wish there was a part two or something. So many questions. This is brilliant. I wish it was a film. Amazing idea. Speechless. I want to know what happens next.

Reminds me of "DOODLEBUG" by Nolan.
