Honestly think # 3 was the biggest surprise for me.

My expectations for Iceland were already high before I visited, yet it still exceeded them.

Tiny correction from a local. Spring rivers are fresh and safe to drink from. Glacial river water - as mentioned - is not; glaciers are surface reservoirs of water and thus carry with them whatever lands on the glacier and is carried away with melt.

I remember being told it was safe to drink from a stream. It was crisp, cold, and fresh. 100 meters upstream, there was a dead sheep in the stream. I won't do that again.

Some people don't understand that small talk is insincere, no matter how nice or polite they sound. And not everyone has to have it as part of their culture, in quite a few places it's reserved for familiar faces. It's no loss anywhere to not engage in it, if you want friendly conversation there are more appropriate places than bothering people that are busy.

I’ve never thought saying “Have a nice day” in a store was small talk, is it not more an act of kindness or just being polite?

I am from Iceland and I just wanna say that also it’s 1 of the top 10 safest countries in the world since there are not many evil people, thief’s or criminals. Anyways I hope you enjoyed your trip on Iceland = my country have a fantastic trip and time of your life :).

The purple plant you showed at the end is the Nootka lupin which is invasive in Iceland

Being an introvert has nothing to do with liking or not liking Smalltalk. Being an introvert simply means that you recharge your batteries when you are by yourself. Being an introvert does not mean that you are shy. I'm so tired of people conflating these two things. You're probably not an introvert if you don't even know what an introvert is

The Nordics/Scandinavia are also very good for introverts. If you haven't, you should visit.
I'm Irish, so I found it quite odd. 😅

I’m so happy you enjoyed your Icelandic experience!! Reykjavik is usually more crowded during Christmas break and sales and such but otherwise it’s pretty chill!
If anyone reading this is into waterfalls and hiking; I recommend going to svartifoss! (Translation is black waterfall) just be sure to check the weather-forecast before you plan to go since it looks the best during summer and you can walk in the stream barefoot if you want!
Yes I’m Icelandic, could you tell? 😂

Small talk is very much a thing here its just usually between friends, if its with a stranger then usually something is happening that warrants mention, also only moving water is safe, stagnant water is where you have disease.

"Hi how are you and have a nice day" are friendly connecting gestures. We need more of it.
But yes, Iceland is nice

I've never been to Iceland, but I do have friends who vacationed there. They particularly liked the Blue Lagoon thermal spa. Although expensive, the amenities are amazing. They also loved the Silica Hotel for it's beautiful interior.
