NYMPHOMANIAC is the wild and poetic story of a woman’s journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg).

On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life.

He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushy branched-out and multifaceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.

This is the true "Melancholia" movie. So freaking depressing, especially the way she became a criminal in the second movie and said society didn't have room for her. And the shot where she stoods by the large tree on the top of the mountain. Broke my heart 💔

The scene in this film where she has to visit the gynocilogist because she has masterbated in such excess causing layers of her genitalia to become removed and her bleeding caused from tears and harm to her genitals is what differentials this film to me from other films attempting to romantize the notion of sex addiction or mislabel their additions of engaging in sex as some form of addiction. Additions in performing or participating in sex and continued sex to include placing self or others in harm's way is what truely indicate addiction.

In my opinion it is quite a depressing movie. How people tend to move towards sex when they are socially and mentally not satisfied with their life.

One the best movies, I ever seen incredibly heavy, acting umeasurable.. this movie I will never forget. Not for people to watch with family, or viewers that have to many judgments and don't have enough of a broad spectrum of the thought complexity of what makes certain people tick or not.

I was in prison when film 4 premiered this the whole wing was rocking lol

Watched it on netflix. Long film split into two as it's in the neighborhood of seven hours total run time. I won't give anything away, but I did find a few issues that I could've done without like her later career path and where it leads, but it was a beautiful film overall.
