I am a greek studying in Germany and I'm counting down the days until Thursday, when I'll fly to Greece for the holidays, hug my family and eat that first bite of my mother's Melomakarona... 🥹 It feels like a warm hug. Thank you for the video!!!

Μελομακάρονα Melomakarona
Tasted them in Cyprus, delicious!
While these are traditional special occasions cookies, my old neighbour lady made them often for her grandchildren because they liked them 😊

I'm from Korea, and I wish you would make this recipe. You are one of my favorite food youtubers, and it would mean a lot of me, just like this recipe. It's 동그랑땡, or Korean meatball. To make it, you need to use equal parts tofu and ground beef, some green onion, and some carrot, and just massage the dough together. The next thing you need is 깻잎, or Perilla leaves. They might be hard to find. Sprinkle a bit of flour inside the leaves, and fill the inside with the dough. Press them down nicely, and add a bit more flour if it doesn't stick well. Cover them in egg wash, and fry them on medium heat with a bit of oil. My mom and I always made these together on Christmas, or on birthdays. It's a dish that makes me truly happy.

Greetings from Greece! Note that this recipe has an alternative that uses flour instead of semolina, which make these cookies even better! Because flour does not hold the excessive syrup.. You should also try another Christmas treat, its called kourampies.. its a buttery cookie, realy delicious.. in Greece its the forever 'dilemma' of Christmas and people always asking each other during holidays if they like better melomakarona or kourampies😂

I just made these a few days ago for the very first time for a party and personally ate so many! These cookies are great for people with dairy/egg allergies and if you substitute the honey with maple syrup then they are vegan. You gotta make these cookies.

Love how so many country's have similar food recipes despite being so far away from each other! Basbousa which is made in Middle Eastern countries is very similar to this ❤

They also have clove and add more cinnamon. I can tell from their color they lack spices. And We dont poke them with forks, we scar them diagonally to make small rhomboids. And add more crushed walnuts at the end, they need to stick on top of the cookies. I think that's all!

We used to serve Melamakarona in the hammam spa that I worked at, after your sweat-scrub-massage combo you would relax in the lounge with mint tea and a Melamakarona cookie ❤

My happy dish is latkes with fresh applesauce and sour cream. My mom worked from 5 to 9 everyday, came home tired, and wishing that her life would improve. After my brother was born though, she changed jobs (she still worked a lot but not as much) and would come home in time to make me and him dinner. That’s when she learned how to cook. She found a recipe from a cookbook to make latkes. She decided to make them for Hanukkah when I was 13 and my brother was 9. She would cook them halfway, spread butter on top of the undercooked side and cooked that so it got even crunchier than a normal latke. We would only have this during Hanukkah or Birthdays and it would mean the world to me if you would make this. She died in 2020 due to COVID and was unable to meet her grandkids because of that. I still make it for my daughter and she enjoys them every time. Love you mom. I couldn’t find the exact recipe my mom used but this one is very similar

Latkes:
2 large potatoes
1 onion
2 eggs
1/2 a cup of flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
Lots of oil
Butter (optional)
Herbs of your choice (optional)

Applesauce:
Apples
Sugar
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Water

Recipe (latkes):
Grate the potato’s and onions. Put those in a clean dishtowel and squeeze it wring out as much liquid as possible. Add the onions and potato’s to a large bowl and add eggs, flour, baking powder, salt and pepper. In a large frypan, add oil and wait until it starts to sizzle. Add the mixture to the oil and work in batches. Use a spatula to flatten the latkes and after around 5 minutes (whenever the latkes edges get crispy) flip them. Wait another 5 minutes and plate them. She would plate them, add the butter and whatever herbs she wanted and give us the applesauce or sour cream on the side.

Recipe (applesauce):
Peel, core and dice the apples. Add those to a large pot. Bring that to medium heat and add water, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Once the apples are mushy, mash everything together until it reaches the right consistency. Let cool and serve.
