Why Mathematica is Better than MATLAB

Why Mathematica is better than Matlab?

Mathmatica is better than Matlab at symbolic manipulation.

They are both intended to manipulate mathematical symbols.

Mathematica is more advanced and handles far more complex ones. Matlab is more like math software for beginners.

Whereas Mathematica is for the advanced crowd.

I'd actually put Maple in the advanced category.

You make it sound like Mathematica is not enough.

Learning Mathematica will get you through grad school math and almost anything professionally you need to do short of build climate modes that actually work or a job with Big Data.

I've heard Mathematica is harder to code in.

And Matlab is a lot harder than a language like HTML or Java.

I'd almost want to learn the easier one first.

If you're going to learn one of those math processor languages, learn the more advanced one so you don't have to learn the better one on top of Matlab.

Why else do you think Mathematica is better?

It is harder to screw up the code you are writing. And Mathematica code is more likely to run on the next version of Mathematica, compared to Matlab's poor backwards compatibility.

I'd hope to be done with these math courses before the next version's compatibility matters.

Mathematica is more often used by the job market as a whole, whether you are calculating the number of ions you've trapped or mapping macroeconomic trends.

I wouldn't know where to start with that.

Mathematica has a larger user community and more online resources you could use.

That certainly is useful.

Now it won't do your homework for you, but there are many good references on filters to use to calculate a specific value or modules for niches like chemical engineering.

I suppose it could be worse.

Yeah, you could be trying to do it by hand, or worse, in Mathcad.
