Wow, looking back at that time when Nicolas Almagro said " Rafa will Win roland Garos 40 times even when he is 65 years old " mind blowing.

"he will be 65 and winning RG" you gotta love Almagro

The ironic part about Almagro's comment was Nadal won only 3 RG back then (2005-2007) and that were his only Grand slams until that period. Imagine someone saying Murray gonna win 40 Wimbledons when he won just twice.. That's how insane that comment was back then.. Everyone had a laugh about it since critics back then were so sure that Rafa's career wont even last long due to his playstyle. But look where he is now at RG... 35, still playing as the defending champion and now he has won 10 more to that tally.. 13 RG and fighting for the 14th right now. Absolutely insane accomplishment.

Federer will always be my favorite to watch, but this guy... He's probably the toughest, hardest player to beat in history. If I ever had to chose a player to win a match my life depended on, I'd pick him.

The Almagro incident - I always got the impression his comments were aimed at the crowd who, at that time, were cold and refusing to clap for Rafa. It was like he saying 'yeah you should be appreciating him', 'look how good that was - he's gonna keep winning - get used to it.' At the end of the match he comforted Rafa by ruffling his hair like a child.

2008 was a turning point for Federer. Literally, he was in a sinking ship. Rafa had the measure of him and his confidence went to hell. Let's remember that before Rafa happened, Rog was on a roll pretty much destroying anything that happened to wander on the other side of the net. His dominance was absolute for a three year span, everyone was terrified of him, he could wipe the floor with anyone he played against.

Then this kid comes and not only wasn't terrified of him but actually got his number on the clay, and challenged him hard on the other surfaces too. It was such a surprise to him, such a strike to his confidence that Federer wasn't Federer in that RG final. He sums it nicely in the video: he just didn't think he couldn't win against him, not there, not on that surface, not on that venue. He was not only humbled by Nadal, at points it was almost embarrasing.

But the argument could be given that it was clay, it was Rafa's surface, after all. But then Wimbledon happened, and that wasn't clay anymore. And then Australia happened, and most certainly that wasn't clay either.
Most other players would've sunk at that point to never recover. Takes a champion to collect yourself (the pieces of it that are left after having been blown all around the place by your opponent, that is), and come back stronger to match such a nemesis, fight back and actually be able to beat it...at least sometimes ;).

And the best part of it, do it while getting to be best friends with said nemesis.

I'm in awe of this two. Really, I am. I know Novak is also a monster, but the whole back-and-forth story between Roger and Rafa (and their friendship on top of it) is one of the best stories sports has ever given us.
