I remember visiting my Aunt Fredda Mae house on holidays or any given weekend and she would start drinking her favorite drink Cook's champagne with 🍓's. She would then begin to play her husband records all night long. All the family would gather in the living room dancing and laughing. I miss those days 😪 😞. Yes my Aunt Fredda was married to Hound Dog Taylor.

I am a HUGE Hound Dog fan, but here . . . that drummer! Incredible. Just totally beyond, one with the music, no effort, pure feel, pure swing. Time is his playground. Insane.

Hound dog had six fingers, Magic Slim had four fingers, I can’t tell if I should cut a finger off or grow a new one.

It’s criminal that this only has 74k views. Though I’m certain the youtube algorithm will make this wildly popular in 5 years.

Saw him in DC at a folk fest on the Capitol mall. Ran a mile when I heard that slide (thought it was Butterfield doing Yonders Wall) and got in front of the loudest band I EVER saw, Houndog relaxed and the music coming out with seemingly no effort, just pure pleasure to share
Made a huge impact and still one of the great shows ever for me.

I saw this American Folk Blues festival in Bristol, England. Still the most memorable concert of my life. Thanks for posting.

OMG! Check out this drummer - Odie Payne! I don't know anythng about technique but this guy is unique. First, he isn't crouched over his kit, he sits up and with what looks like a traditional grip, strokes with his arms pretty much at his side - a lot of wrist. There is so much action in his rhythm, he is in such a groove and he looks entirely relaxed. I don't know how his kit is set up and I can't distinguish what he is using but the rhythm is incredible. Tried to get some background and know that he backed up a lot of blues acts and some R&R (Chuck Berry) at Chess. And now gone, probably from late nights on the road in those smokey clubs. Watch him bob his head on one chorus because he can't restrain himself. Wish I could source some more of his recordings but nobody kept track of all that session work in the 50's and early 60's. Odie Payne, you are a real artist.
