Nice to know about the figure 8 as a possibility. Would have been great to see the same test with a really powerful winch. Pull till something lets go.

have watched many repair videos and had wondered how strong it would be without the burry. i see most taper all the way down to 1 strand but yankum rope only goes down to 4 when they taper

Splicing that without a fid is going to be rough.

Good to know about the strength of the figure 8. My old 5/16" winch line recently broke after about 10 years of wheeling. I've been turning it into winch extensions and it was super easy to do a deep bury eye splice using nothing but a cheap ball point pen and duct tape. Definitely possible on the trails.

Sweet DIY frame-straightening rig. ;-)

Knowing 20 or more knots should be required to obtain your man card. So useful in many situations.

I’ve always thought a clove hitch would be good to use, being as it’s a hitch and not a knot, it should keep more than 50% of the line strength. Of course not for a situation like this but only to shorten a winch extension or something, like if you had to use a hi lift as a winch and only had a winch extension rope and no chain to adjust the length you need.

Hi, @trailcraft Another nice video, very helpful info as always. Are you planning to do: Offroading in snow videos? Generally, I'm very enthusiastic about offroad snow driving, but there isn't much information anywhere, mostly is driving on flat snowy roads at higher speeds.
