Game-Changing Podcast & Streaming Mic? Earthworks Audio ETHOS

Today we are looking at Earthworks Audio new Condenser Mic, ETHOS!

Visually and sonically precise, the stainless steel Earthworks ETHOS is a broadcast condenser microphone built to impart a competitive, detailed quality to your voice for podcasts, narration, audiobooks, and more, helping it stand out in a world of speech-centric content. Like many mics that made Earthworks a big name, the ETHOS utilizes a small-diaphragm condenser capsule, which allows it to deliver nuanced and accurate vocal recordings with extended highs.

While it is common for broadcast mics to have cardioid polar patterns, the ETHOS features a supercardioid response, enabling more focused capture of your voice with less background noise, which makes it a great option for musicians and engineers as well.

The combination of low-noise circuitry and high SPL handling make it a strong performer, even in today's demanding production standards. Whether hung from a boom arm or affixed to a mic stand, the supplied mount from Triad-Orbit lets you get optimal and stable mic placement without trouble.

Tech Details

I love how that mid-range is cutting through but with that body as well. Seems pretty neat!

PLEEEASE test it on instruments. I’m plantning on buying 2 of them for live use, not really for voice. Bass cab, brass.. But who knows?

Slightly off topic. What windscreen are you guys using for your Icon Pro? I use a Shure one on mine, but yours looks different to that. Thanks for the video as always.

Great video! SM7 looks like a winner for me, but the ethos is a great choice as well! the midrange forwardness of the SM7b is what’s up.

The best review of this mic I’ve seen. Thanks for gain matching before your demo. That was an excellent “produce like a pro” touch, and frankly quite professional analysis. Thank you

I'm with you on fine engineering. like fine milled billet al-lou-min-ee-um follows function! of course you whipped out a from a super scale RC Spitfire?? ;:-)

I think for people who are using inexpensive interfaces, that maybe don't have the most robust built in pres?, the Icon is the way to go. Having that extra weight without added eq is choice!. and the Ethos is just a little more of ball/socket mount is the greatest idea!!

I like so many mics.... I gravitate a little more towards "classic", sightly warmer... Not too brittle sounding microphones...

I believe the Icon is meant for more distant placement, part of it's point. 6-8" with a wider bubble and the ability to be out of frame. The Ethos has a more scooped mid, FM radio sound, not a bad thing but it's darker than the Icon.

As always a marvelous review. A schnizzleton of useful information. Thank you, Warren!

By the way, you can add "hej då" in your multi-lingual good bye. (That's swedish)

Cheers

They have a mini USB version of the sm7b now that's under $300 new and doesnt require the cloud lifter. That's what I want!
