I love the prequels. They expand the Star Wars universe in a way the OT didn’t and couldn’t do (just look at the expanded universe. It’s all prequel inspired). The overarching story is deeply complex and interesting, the action is both more plentiful and superior in both choreography and aesthetics, the cgi is ground breaking and holds up, the characters are well developed and their interactions make sense, there are 0 plot holes or contrivances and isn’t just a copycat of the OT (unlike the ST). I prefer them. Sure I grew up with them and the nostalgia helps but the more I listen to people talk about the subtleties of these movies, the more I grow to love them and realise how intelligent they really are. The only think I can critique is the iffy dialogue but I feel it conveys what it needs, doesn’t bother me much and gives the movie an identity (some describe it as Shakespearean but I just imagine it’s just how Jedi and politicians talk). Sometimes the cgi can be a bit odd looking but generally it’s used effectively to add to the environment and the action scenes. Don’t let the OT fanboys ruin your fun because they live in a bubble

Well said. I really hate when people hate things just because they're different, without thinking about why they're different.

I was born in 90, and loved the prequels. The originals are okay, and I've never had a problem telling that to people. They can get SUPER F'D.

I was 11 when this sh*t came out, and I didn't think a single piece of it was boring. We had some pretty intellectual shows and movies. Star Wars, Gargoyles, Gundam Wing, Hey Arnold, Lord of the Rings and those were just some American ones. We literally learned sh*t watching these. I f*cking cried in the theater during Episode 3, with my friends present. I think that was the first time I ever cried in public, and I gave 0 f*cks.

anakin had some cringe shakespearean dialogue. but the sand scene ? that wasnt cringe at all. that was amazing writing and acting. he talked both about slavery and love at the same time, and expressed, in his jedi-way, what is the life he really wants. almost as if he secretly finally expressed his true self. (and then came the war which killed his smile and gave him PTSD)
loved that scene.

anomaly inc makes good series called"revenge of the prequels" and even he says that anakin's clunky dialogue is actually good and justified he's a weird teen who known nothing but his hated sand planet and jedi teechings no way he would just do a 007 on padme . remember he still is an akward young adult

If Lucas has stuck to his original idea that Jar Jar Binks was the Sith Lord and not caved into the demands of 'fans', the prequels would have been even better.

As a generation X-er who grew up with the originals and loves the prequels, I commend you for making this geat video. Even though I was a big fan of the OT, I think I went into TPM at the age of 19 with a much more objective mind than most fans. I was slightly too young to have seen the originals in the theaters, but saw them on television/VHS well before my teens. But I wasnt a fan of them back then because I was more interested in the classic 80s cartoons like He Man, Transformers, and Voltron. I didnt become a big fan until the early 90s when I was 13, and that was because of the Star Wars video games that were coming out. Then in the late 90s I had a bit of a falling out with Star Wars. And I was very pessimistic about the prequels. So I went into TPM ready to take it to the woodshed, and ended up loving it. I think the problem is, between the years of 1983 and 1999, the legend of Star Wars had grown so much and started to take over the actual films, and people forgot what it actually was: the biggest, deepest, and most sophisticated set of B movies ever made.

The prequels are every bit as great as the original trilogy.
If anything, they are indeed the superior films. And I say that as someone who grew up with the original trilogy, and watched them all in theater as a child.
Together, these six films form arguably the greatest saga of modern cinema.

On a sidenote: I will never understand why people (including you) complain about that typical Star Wars dialogue. I always loved it, and it felt like I was watching a far away galaxy indeed.
George specifically modeled that style of dialogue after the Saturday matinee serials of the 30s and 40s. And he did an awesome job!

The prequels are incredible and make the original trilogy more legendary that is the reality.

The Hatred for the prequels were so irrational. It also goes to show how sheep like people are. I would say the prequels are objectively better.

I love the prequels way more than the OT but I can't say they're better. In my opinion, the prequels are equal to the OT.

You don't have to shit on the OT to bring up the prequels, they can more than stand on their own.

I genuinely prefer the prequels for the rich and expansive universe they created. Especially like the political side of it. Reading Darth Plageuis immersed me in that world and cemented my love for the intricacies of the sith order's rise to power and it's clandestine relationship with the trade federation (cloak of deception and labyrinth of evil substantiate this elaborate world too.) The prequels gave us countless complex civilisations, a glimpse of the star wars universe and the tension that existed between all it's sentient alien lifeforms plus the reasons why. The originals failed to come anywhere near doing this. They need the prequels to explain the oppression of the empire and a reason for this rather basic good and evil dichotomy. This is why the sequels are disliked so much because they are updated facimile of the originals. We must not forget how derivative of the prequels the old Republic is either e.g. the novels about revan and Darth bane and the old Republic video games. We have to remember the prequels were the basis for bad batch, the clone wars leading to the creation of amazing characters like Ashoka, maul and of course anakin and young Obi wan who have since become fan favourites. The original trilogy whether you like it or not did not present the same depth of world building, it's plot was not as complex and compelling and ultimately it had less room for expansion. We know that the originals carried a great deal of nostalgia because of the enchanting sense of the heroism of the jedi and the rebels facing off against the mighty empire. I saw both trilogies as a kid and genuinely preferred the prequels. I watch more prequel clips, read more prequel EU books and so on. Btw for all those that complain at prequel dialogue the originals dialogue was hardly masterfully done either and the prequels had countless memorable and iconic lines. Prequels all the way baby.

By and large, I agree. However George Lucas himself would disagree that the trilogies should be viewed separately as different things. The prequels existing actually enhances the original trilogy. They are meant to be watched 1 through 6. You're a bit harsh on the OT. It's fair to bring up to contrast all the prequel hate, but Luke's reaction to death isn't uncommon. I myself didn't cry when my grandmother died, and I was with her. It's not because I didn't love her, it's just you never know how one will react to something like that. Sometimes acceptance comes quick and they don't get emotional.

I hate how people use the dialogue of A New Hope to discredit the prequels. The dialogue in A New Hope is great, people are just calling it bad to prove that George Lucas is a bad filmmaker, when he's not.

One tidbit of the Prequels that you seem to have missed or just neglected to mention is Anakin's dynamic with the Jedi and Palpatine. It's not just his flaws that bring about his downfall; he was actively groomed by Palpatine, who fed and helped develop those flaws. And the Jedi Order being mired in dogma and not realizing that someone special like Anakin requires special treatment only helped his cause. They tried to cram Anakin within the confines of their dogma despite him being unfit for it. It's not even just him being called the chosen one that feeds his ego, it's him knowing that he is the best, or at least one of the best. And he is. The beginning of ROTS solidifies that: after all, he's the one to defeat Dooku one-on-one, while Obi-Wan almost got killed. He's the champion of the order by that point, but they never acknowledge it or commend him on his successes, show him any kind of empathy or appreciation, which only serves to feed his resentment towards them when he receives all of that from Palpatine.
