Sorry if I went a little number heavy this week, and if it got confusing at all, but I was truly surprised by the utter lack of Prequel hate I got... both in terms of the results and the comments left by all of you.

the clone wars is what made me appreciate the prequels a lot more, that show gave so much more depth that was needed for the characters and made palpatine feel that much more menacing

The prequels were a huge part of my childhood. I only heard of the hate in my late teens.

I never hated them. I was born in early 90's so wasn't molded by older brothers/critics making me feel bad about them.

I never hated the Prequels. I always loved and enjoyed them.

Fans: Prequels are the worst thing that happened to Star Wars!
Sequels: *come out*
Fans: *to prequels* Perhaps I have treated you too harshly.

"What happened to all the Star Wars Prequel hate?" After the sequels people wanted to convince themselves Lucas would have done a better job, not realizing their hate for the prequels is why Lucas sold Lucasfilm. They act like Disney stole star wars from him or something. No, in an interview after the sale he said the fans would have hated his vision for the sequel trilogy "like the prequels".

The Clone Wars and meme culture happened and made people appreciate characters and dialogue more. Than the sequels happened and made people appreciate stories which were... planned in advance.

Seriously, I think part of the difference between prequel hate and sequel hate is that the prequels are atleast very memeable. Even the most ardent prequel hater must admit that the memes are fantastic.

Fans then: The prequels are the worst STAR WARS content

The Sequels: Allow us to introduce ourselves

"The prequels had much more competition"
Considering they came out side by side with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, that's quite the understatement. The younger crowd that grew up loving the prequels (Myself included) had a lot more to enjoy coming out than the ones who grew up with the OT.

I love the prequels and the original trilogy in equal amounts. Hell, I'm even willing to defend Jar Jar because if to you he's an annoying buffoon, to me he'll always be the funny creature in a space movie I loved as a kid. In fact, I remembered being a little bummed that he wasn't as prevalent in the following two movies when I was a kid.

That being said, I still have the same amount of love for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings as I do for Star Wars, so maybe there's a lot more to this

Hey Natalie Portman’s outfits from the Prequels are why I want to be a professional costume designer

One main criticisms I have with the Last Jedi is that it does not feel like Star Wars. Superficially, it looks and sounds like Star Wars but many die hard fans including myself did not feel like we were watching a Star Wars movie when viewing Episode 8. It lacks the spirit, themes, and originality of the original Star Wars.

Say what you will about the prequels, but they always felt like Star Wars, a plausible expansion to the Original Trilogy. The morals and messages of prequels always fell in line with the OT, the only criticism one could have is in the execution of those messages.

I cannot extend that sentiment to the Last Jedi which feels so detached from the rest of Star Wars. This was deliberate of course as Rian Johnson himself constantly referenced "subversion" as his storytelling technique of choice. The problem I and many other fans have is that if you subvert everything special about a story, you threaten to make everything that came before pointless and meaningless.

Seeing the Last Jedi just opened our eyes to how bad a Star Wars movie really can be. The one compliment I will give Episode 8 is that at least it made people realize the prequels are not that bad in comparison.

Revenge of the Sith saved the prequel trilogy in my opinion. Love that movie, and I love the way it ended that trilogy.

I grew up when the prequels were coming out, and I really liked them back then.
I still like them today, but I have became more and more aware of their problems. Still I don't think I would ever dislike them, because the things that made me like them will always be there.

To be be completely honest. I used to be one of those people who hated the prequels because it was cool. Do I have actual problems and legitimate criticism for them? Of course, but I would just blanket statement them as trash for the longest time.

Then the Disney Star Wars movies came out. And now I see while the prequels are flawed, they still told an original story and most importantly WERE RESPECTFUL TO THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY. George actually tried with episodes 1-3. Unlike Jar Jar Abrams and Rian "I'll never work in Hollywood again" Johnson.

George put blood, sweat, and tears into the prequels and after seeing the travesty of what we have now, I think it finally shows. I think now even if you still hate the prequels you can at least admit they are:
1. Better than the disney sequels
2. Better for Star Wars canon

Original Trilogy - Story
Prequel Trilogy - world building
Sequel Trilogy - Let's destroy everything that was in Original's and Prequel's
