Thanks again for watching and check the description of the video for links to the full Playlist and a chapter set for jumping around or coming back later.

I will have a lot of really close visuals of the CRT screen on the next video. That will be out in early July. Take care everyone.

What an amazing CRT. You are very lucky to have found it!

Thank you so much for doing an amazing job with the NEC! I’m finally going to make the 8 hour drive to my family’s house to pick it up and carefully drive it back home. (Don’t fret too much I’ll make sure it’s padded up.)

The monitor has had a long journey from Facebook marketplace in Illinois to TN, and now soon NC. A member of my family is looking at some potentially scary health news soon so the trip isn’t as pure fun as it once was but I appreciate the retro community for their source of good vibes during this whole restoration! It’s truly been a bright spot.

I've seen people sell this monitor because of how hard and complex it can be to restore, and even when you restore something will fail shortly after, so big props for attempting it!

I love watching these videos seeing that these crt's are going to have some more life. I just wish tube rebuilding was still a thing. I would love to see a new tube using quantum dot instead of phosphors

WHOA!! That is a lot of dust and dirt in that unit Steve. Amazing how it lasted this long. But then again, NEC made some really fantastic units to last forever. Glad it's in you hands to be restored bro. 8^)

My retro repair specialist has several XM29s he’s getting ready to put on the market. He’s trying to dial in some convergence and geometry issues in them first. If they turn out anything close to looking like this one, I’m ditching my Sony 20M2U for one!

I would use and wire thermometer and check the inside of the case with different fan push and pull settings to check which setup is the coolest for the inside

I’m surprised your camera even picked up that 15khz whine. I could hear it through the video once the tv was turned on

Got AKI wrestling games vibes from the background, is it?

Cool video

I am actually going to recap my first sony trinitron consumer crt.
I have taken it apart and taking notes about the capacitors, their diameter, length, lead spacing and all of that so I can order the right size and value from mouser.
The reason I am going to recap it is becouse it has some geometry issues on the right top corner and bottom left corner. They are a little squished.

Do you think that's bad caps going that or it has some other problems ?
Your opinion would really help 😁😅

Oh, I thought the whole time that this is a XM29 but the inputs are on mine left and right, so that must be a XM29 Plus with a sharper image and thicker scanlines. Can u confirm this?
