One of my favourite James Ingram tracks. Doesn't get enough love. 😊🎙

This track, from James Ingram’s 1983 debut album, was produced by Quincy Jones and written by the gifted Rod Temperton, who wrote hits for 70s band Heatwave and “Rock With You, ” “Off The Wall” and “Thriller” for Michael Jackson. Considering the song's rhythmic hi-hat cymbal opening, similar rhythm arrangement under the verses, and an instrumental solo by a jazz legend (in this case, organist Jimmy Smith), it would seem Temperton was inspired by Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” (during this track, Ingram even introduces Jimmy Smith with the same zeal that Wonder introduces Dizzy Gillespie on "Sir Duke"). A great vocalist, Ingram was also more than capable on keyboards (that’s him playing keys and the funky synthesizer bass on the Carl Carlton 1981 classic, “She’s A Bad Mama Mama”) and writer of Michael Jackson’s Thriller track “P.Y.T.” Ingram passed away in 2019.
