A great, clear tutorial, and very timely. I make projected backdrops for stage shows and I have to make an Aladdin's cave full of jewels, gold and crystals.
I turned up the scale on the sphere to end up with a very spiky crystalline structure, which looks really effective - like the inside of a geode.
I found they look even better a point light inside them.
