#shorts a lot of people complain about #buildingregulations especially when they impact private homes. But history shows that without minimum standards homes will be built with fewer amenities and facilities.

The standards here are less than what the minimum standards should be. Houses n the UK are extremely depressing spaces. Feels so cramped. These standards are inhuman standards

TBH i would rather have the standards we have here in the UK, than the lack of them like in a lot of States in the USA. I am often surprised when watching someone over the pond building a house in a no code state and not even requiring insulation/ membrane under a concrete slab. The States that do require under slab insulation only require 50mm insulation even when their temperatures go lower than -20c. I currently live in a Victorian type mid terrace with solid walls so no insulation it gets cold in here in the winter. The bathroom/ kitchen was ''refurbed'' by the council back in 2003 they didn't even go to the building regs at the time. I had to dig up the bathroom floor due to a burst pipe and found they used 18 inches of concrete on top of 50mm insulation.
