Mama's Nighttime Routine

1. Take off my eye make-up
I wear eye make-up about 3 or 4 times a week depending on what my schedule is like. I RARELY go to bed without taking it off as I think it harms my eyelashes! LOL! The mascara gets so hard and flaky in the morning... can't be good. I've been using Jason's make-up remover pads for years. It has pretty clean ingredients and does the trick!
2. Wash my face
I have normal to dry skin with a little "congestion" (little pimples, black heads and larger pores) in the t-zone area. I use Kiss My Face Olive Oil Soap with a natural sponge. This gives my skin a gentle daily exfoliation. Once a week or so, I use aTropical Traditions scrub but you could also make your own mixing coconut oil with sea salt and a drop of essential oil. I use the scrub in my t-zone and stay away from the fragile skin around the eyes.
3. Floss my teeth
I have a love-hate relationship with my teeth and dental hygiene. I don't like doing it but have to. I have high maintenance teeth since I rotted out so many molars with my sugar addiction back in the day. I floss daily... sometimes twice a day (especially after eating a mango :) ). I like mint wax floss that's relatively thin. This gets in-between the crevices where food and bacteria can hide out. I also sometimes use my water pick but it's so LOUD that I don't want to wake up Griffin.
4. Brush teeth
I use a soft bristle toothbrush from recycle plastic and this awesome toothpaste that my dentist created. I've pleaded her to sell online or in stores but she's too busy to start a toothpaste company. LOL! It's the ONLY one I've found on the market that doesn't contain fluoride, sodium lauryl sulfate (or any of its derivatives) and glycerin. Glycerin, which is in almost all toothpastes, actually coats the teeth and makes them harder to clean and less able to breathe (yes, our teeth need to breathe :).
5. Put on my night guard and retainer.
Yes, I still have my retainer from when I got my braces off in 8th grade! Feel free to make fun of me BUT I do have to say that my teeth haven't moved like some of my friends who didn't wear theirs.
However, I wear my night guard religiously. I'm a clencher and even have created fractures in a few teeth from the pressure. I love mine because my dentist made one that's non-toxic and safe to wear all night long. I also love how small it is compared with the old one I had that was like what football player's wear! LOL!
6. Put on lip balm.
Thankfully, I don't suffer from chronic, chapped lips but I do love the feeling of lip balm on my lips before bed. It seals the deal and makes me feel happy and ready for bed. It also makes my nighttime kiss with honey even sweeter :). I like Badger lip balms. The ingredients are clean and it smells good.
7. Say my prayers.
Each night, I get on my knees and give thanks for my life, my son, my marriage, for not having to stuff my face with sugar anymore and for being loved. I review my day and think of times where I was off (was too quick to anger, impatient, passive, etc.) and think about how I can make it right or do it different next time. God is so good because He often reminds me of the things I did that were GOOD as I can be hard on myself.
8. Give Mike a kiss
I can't fall asleep unless I get a kiss from hubby. He's usually either praying or reading by this time. Sometimes we chat or cuddle for a few minutes but regardless, I always end my day with a kiss from Michael.
9. Sleep!
I usually like to be asleep by 10:30 p.m. I'm lucky in that I fall asleep within minutes. Sometimes, I wear headphones and listen to soaking music, lulling off to praise music that inspires my dreams, which are often vivid.
There you have it, mamas. My little night time ritual. Hopefully, I didn't put YOU to sleep. LOL!
