A napkin on the tailpipe while running will show if it's burning oil. Those plugs are dry, that's not gas. You'd have a miss if the ignition system was at fault. That's definitely oil. Rings most likely, but a blown head gasket could allow oil into the cylinder. Check for oil in the coolant or water/foam in the oil to confirm.

Hello! Thanks for letting us know good VS bad ones because some of us are complete newbies lol! Thanks Man!

This is incredibly helpful! My neighbor gave me their pressure washer (with a Honda GX200) and it couldn’t idle. When I pulled the spark plug, it was jet black and greasy!

The second set is what mine looked like on 2 of the four with a ton of ash build up, the other two were very rich. It had a massive intake leak, vaccum lines missing, clogged air filter, fuel filter, and to boot, original plugs from 24 years ago. Also clogged injectors that have gotten better after cleaners.

you're comparing 2 different types of spark plugs.
the first set you showed are called cold spark plugs (with less insulation, hence fewer threads), which tend to dissipate heat more from the insulator to the block and in turn cannot fully burn the carbon deposits on the insulators.
the second set you showed are hot spark plugs (with more insulation, hence more threads), and they do not dissipate a lot of heat from the insulator to the block and therefore they completely burn the carbon deposits on the insulators, hence the light greyish colour.

you're welcome.

I ran my plugs too lean with timing advanced and they were ashy white. Goodbye 50 dollar NGKs 😢
