Those "flying buttresses" are see through to minimize blind spots.
The theory there is that when seating in the car and looking over your shoulder, you don't just see a solid piece, but have a see-through panel.

The best McLaren I can buy I have already bought. It's McLaren F1 1: 43 scale. 1: 18s are a bit over budget and parking becomes an issue where I live.
