“As Easy As Rolling Off A Log” first appeared in the 1937 football film Over the Goal. James discovered the song as a kid when it was featured the Merrie Melodies cartoon Katnip Kollege from 1938. James’s version is the first time it’s ever been covered.

It takes an extraordinary artist to re-imagine some of the most beloved songs of the 20th century and make them completely their own. Unlike most who have tackled similar material, American Standard’s beautifully simple, stripped-down arrangements are based on the 2-guitar collaboration of James Taylor and John Pizzarelli, rather than standard piano arrangements. James was determined to keep that sound at the center of the project, and the effect is mesmerizing.

I've never been a big fan of cover versions per se, so when I learned that James' new album comprised of nothing but covers; I must say I was more than a little disappointed. James is one of the finest songwriters on the planet after all and a new album of his originals would have brought me so much joy. However, having listened to the two released tracks from 'American Standard' and having watched the promotional videos, I'm so looking forward to receiving my copy because joy is exactly what this album promises. Timeless songs sung and played by a timeless artist in his own inimitable style. A beacon of light in these dark and distressing times. Thank you James.

sweet! I was born in 1958, and though not having been around for this era of music, I have a love for it through my mother. She was was an accomplished pianist and had tons of sheet music from the 1930s through the 1960s. I am grateful for the exposure. James’ simple and clean treatment of the tunes here is divine.
