Belle Plaine – Long Black Veil (Lefty Frizzell Cover)
Показать описание
Long Black Veil: Written by Marijohn Wilkin & Danny Dill
Thanks so much for checking out our video. This is an old favourite that I first learned at a late night jam when I was living in Australia. There were empty beer cans all about and sleeping dogs at our feet. Years later my love for the song has remained, though now it's my porch that we're singing from. Hope you enjoy. ♡

------- lyrics -------
Ten years ago on a cold dark night
Someone was killed 'neath the town hall light.
There were few at the scene, but they did agreed
That the slayer who ran looked a lot like me.
She walks these hills in a long black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows.
Nobody sees.
Nobody knows but me.
The judge said son, what is your alibi?
If you were somewhere else, then you don't have to die.
I spoke not a word, thou it meant my life.
I'd been in the arms of my best friend's wife.
She walks these hills in a long black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows.
Nobody sees.
Nobody knows but me.
Oh, the scaffold is high and eternity's near.
She stands in the crowd. Sheds not a tear.
But sometimes at night, when the cold wind blows.
In a long black veil she cries on my bones.
She walks these hills in a long black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows.
Nobody sees.
Nobody knows but me.
