How do you look up what an insurance company is investing in?

Could you do an example, like a 100 people with the same mortality risk buy a $100 dollar life insurance and the mortality tables say 1 person passes away...how much and where the money flows? What would the premium probably be? Would it be about $1 since 1 x 100 = 100 paid? or would it be $1.05 ...or $1.01 plus whatever the insurance company got on float?
