Hello my friends! I am Real Boeing737NG Captain and have flown thousands of flight hours. Today I fly the Flight Simulator because it is the only thing that I can fly during lockdown period.
This time I tried Water Landing or so called Ditching. I flew the same pattern as Sully did on his Airbus A320. Even though Boeing 737 is different they still have lots in common and they are the main competetors in that aircraft class. First it is going to be just a fun flight where Real B737 Polit tries to make a Sully Hudson landing. The second try is more informative where I try to explain the theoretical part and practice, the dual engine failure or it is better to say engine loss of thrust on both engines, memory items and further action. It was dual engine severe damage due to birdstrike and engine relight was not possible. Actually Miracle of Hudson is a unique case where pilots deviated from standard QRH procedures and followed common sence and logic. Chesley Sullenberger is very experienced Captain and he implemented his knowledge and experience on practice saving the lives of passengers and crew. So lets go! Boeing vs Airbus! Can I fly the B737 Miracle on Hudson scenery on my Flight Simulator?

By the way follow me on Instagram I have up to date uploads there.

The truth about the Boeing737NG | Is it Ok to fly it? | Explained by Pilot Blog

Hello Guys! My name is Denys, and I am Boeing 737 Captain. Before I used to fly ATR 42/72.
I am making the videos on this Pilot Blog channel to encourage people all around the world to join our aviation community.

I grew up in the NYC area and lived under one of the main air corridors for traffic approaching LGA.

I was lucky enough to get to listen to Sully speak in real life.

Amongst other things he spoke about his experience at the US Air Force Academy flying gliders. I believe that the airmanship he developed while at the academy and during his time as a professional pilot (military and commercial) helped him tremendously during this incident.

Sully was every bit as calm and collected when I got to see him in real life as he was on TV. He’s a great guy and very inspirational.

In terms of the landing on the Hudson, there has been some interesting discussion about the flight control system in the A320 when it comes to this incident.

Some folks say that the system helped Sully tremendously via auto trim etc which allowed him to focus more on the situation vs the hand flying. I believe this.

It’s also been said that the system limited how Sully was able to flare on touchdown and had the aircraft not had the Airbus FBW system (ex: 737), Sully would have had more control over the final flare resulting in a softer touchdown.

It’s an interesting discussion. What’s for sure is that Sully used great judgment, CRM and piloting skill resulting in a survivable touchdown.

Your video is really cool and it’s interesting to see this incident from the perspective of a 737 pilot and a simulated 737.

I don’t recall this incident getting much publicity but 737-300 (Garuda Indonesia Flight 421) ditched in a river in Indonesia following a dual engine flameout in 2002. There was unfortunately one fatality but amazingly everyone else survived. This situation was different than the miracle on the Hudson with this River being shallower than the Hudson, different starting altitude, different weather etc.

Its my opinion that this was also a great feat of airmanship and proved that the 737 could be successfully ditched in a body of water.

Would be interesting if you replicate this incident in the simulator.

I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Sweden

Very nice! And P3D sadly doesnt support ditching properly. The only addon airplane that does is the Q400 as it has an external flight model.

44:11 in PMDG aircraft, landing on water does not work. The best aircraft to use for ditching is the FSLabs A320, A319 and A321 (which I have). And one thing, sometimes when I fly the PMDG 777, landing in water sometimes works.

Ditching cannot be simulated in this simulator. If you turn on detect crashes, it will show that you have crashed, and the session will end. If you turn off detect crashes, then the plane will bounce up and will start to fly 500 ft above the ground with GS of 180 knots.

In Airbus the takeoff flaps is 2 but the pilot in in sully movie used flaps 2 because he decided to land in water the way he lands on land Airbus can float for long time in water because there is a bigger humps under the plane(near the landing gear)and two big engines. As compared, Airbus engines are bigger than boeing engines as it is meant to float.

As usual thank you for this video! I suppose that there are no simulators for PC, that can support a simulation of ditching :(

And I want to see the video about normal flight procedures (preflight, before descent etc.). You can use a short flight from UKBB to UKLL for it. Thanks and have a great day too :)

Too bad he didn't follow through with trying to make LGA. Come to think of it, that's exactly what Sully said, too. We gots to know.
