Strengthening Community-Based Service Capacity through the Justice Reinvestment Initiative

This short video discusses a report the Urban Institute recently published—with funding from the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance—on how some states have used the Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) process to strengthen community-based service capacity and improve public safety. In each of the 10 states we highlighted in our report, our team conducted document reviews and semistructured interviews with key stakeholders to examine their investments to improve community-based capacity to advance prevention and treatment efforts outside of criminal legal system agencies.
