When Stephen prods Bruce Springsteen to pick his five favorite songs from the more than 300 that he's written, The Boss doesn't back down.

Watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert weeknights at 11:35 PM ET/10:35 PM CT. Only on CBS.

---
Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

"I'm On Fire" still gives me chills every time I hear it. I'm not the biggest Bruce Springsteen fan in general, but that one has to be one of the greatest songs I think I've ever heard.

3. Drive All Night
4. My Hometown
5. I'm On Fire
Bruce Springsteen is my favorite artist of all time. It's so tough only giving a top 5 when he has written over 120 songs that I love!

They are not booing him - they are shouting as everybdoby does all over the world! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

Bruce, seems to me to have the George Harrison attitude. He wanted to be successful, not "Famous"

Your first instinct if you've never heard the low grumble "BRUUUCE" chant is "why are they booing him?!" :-)

I think Atlantic city is a really underrated and beautiful song. Has to be one of his best!

"Born to Run"... I still get chills when I hear that song, especially at the part that goes, "...the amusement park rises cold and stark..." but Springsteen has so many great, great songs.

I love all his songs, but my most favorite of them all is " Tougher Than Rest '" I love how the crowd were yelling out his name ( Bruce, Bruce, Bruce) when he appeared on  the show. He was one great entertainer, that's for sure.

The guy gives all all all for every concert. Thusly, the Boss. Writing is brilliant, too.

1. Badlands
2. Thunder Road
3. The Price You Pay
4. Growin' Up (live)
5. Open All Night / New York City Serenade / She's the One / Girls in their Summer Clothes / Jungleland / Two Hearts / Out in the Street / Candy's Room / One Step Up / I'm on Fire / Dancing in the Dark

When you get to number 5 and realize you need to cheat & make some kind of 11-way tie.

My son gifted me the audio version of the book when it came out...NOTHING like hearing the Boss speak the words he wrote....just amazing!

The greatest Rock and Roll songwriter of my lifetime. For every hit like Born in the USA, Hungry Heart and Born to Run, there was an Atlantic City, Two Faces and Downbound Train - literally perfect songs the likes of which he wrote over and over and over again.
