Exploring the Rich History of Carson City and Genoa, Nevada
Join me on an exciting adventure as we explore the Nevada State Capital, Carson City, and take a trip back in time to the historic town of Genoa. Buckle up as we ride through the captivating landscapes and delve into the fascinating past of these remarkable locations.

Genoa: Where Nevada's History Began
Our journey starts in Genoa, Nevada, a town steeped in history and charm. Nestled in what was once the Mexican territory of Alta California, Genoa was first settled by Mormon pioneers. This quaint settlement began as a humble trading post known as Mormon Station. Imagine weary travelers on the Carson Route of the California Trail finding solace and supplies here. In June 1850, after the Mexican Cession, H.S. Beatie and his fellow Mormons built a roofless log enclosure and corral near a small stream, offering essentials like clothing, tobacco, meat, canned goods, coffee, beans, sugar, flour, and bacon. Though the post was abandoned later that year, it laid the groundwork for what was to come.

In 1851, John Reese arrived with horses, cattle, and a dozen wagons brimming with supplies, determined to establish a permanent trading post. By 1852, migrant traffic surged, and Genoa began to expand, becoming a vital stop for travelers heading west.

Carson City: Nevada's State Capital
Next, we go to downtown Carson City, the heart of Nevada's government and history. As we cruise through the streets, we'll visit the impressive Nevada State Capitol building, a stunning example of 19th-century architecture. The Capitol houses the offices of the Governor of Nevada and other key state officials, making it a hub of political activity.

I also explore the Nevada State Museum, where Nevada's rich history comes to life. From exhibits on the Native American tribes who first called this land home to displays on the booming silver mining era, the museum offers a comprehensive look at the state's past. One of the highlights is the Carson City US Mint, which produced coins from 1870 to 1893. The mint's history is a testament to the region's importance during the silver rush.

So, whether you're a history buff or just looking for a scenic ride through some of Nevada's most historic locations, this trip is sure to leave you with a deeper appreciation for the Silver State's rich heritage. Thanks for joining me on this ride through time

Hey Russ, sorry I rarely comment but I've been watching for years. You've been filling my void to get out West. Live in Madison WI and haven't been there since 1968... yeah too long. Really enjoy your back roads and small towns, actually all of your videos. Thank you.

Another good one. Genoa was new to me. Beautiful. That area looks like it was made for a motorcycle. Haven't been to carson in about fifteen years. I could see the growth. A lot of it coming from the CA bay area in the north. Vegas getting impacted by so-cal. Both ends of the golden state running for it. Sad. Looking forward to the choo-choo museum if you get the chance. It's a good one.

Another really great video, Russ. The Genoa storyboard were the most colorful descriptions I have ever seen and lots of birds there. Carson City dollar coins were advertised heavy during the 1980's. I think they are collector item's now. Really enjoyed this visit, Thank you for including your viewers.

At the Mormon Station State Historic Park, a friend of mine her great great grandfather John Reese built the original building that the museum was in. That building is a replica of the one he built. He and his brother were merchants in SLC and in on June 1, 1851 came to this area to establish Mormon Station which was the first settlement of present day Nevada. The original Mormon Station buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1910 and the lot stood empty until 1947 when the replicas of Mormon Station was rebuilt. The cameras you use on your van and you hand held are fantastic. So clear and crisp. Plus the mic you use is great. Can hear you perfect. I think the people looking for Bigfoot need you cameras 😂. Also they filmed The Shootist with John Wayne in Reno and area. Washoe Lake State Park was the buggy ride scene. Others were filmed in the historic district of Reno. It’s to bad you didn’t get to Virginia City. Such a fun place. Parking can be hard to find. Would recommend riding the train.
