One of the best beach songs ever: "Beach Baby" by First Class. They were a studio band that only had the one hit, although lead vocalist Tony Burrows was lead singer on hits by five different bands, including being the only singer to have four hit singles by four different bands at the same time!

Had this single record on an old 45 back in the 70's. This song reminds me of childhood and summer vacation. Those endless days playing kickball, kick the can, roller skating and jump rope and then catching lightning bugs at dusk. Gosh, it was so different back then in the 70's and not just because I was a kid. It was like a different America. Was born in the summer of love, '69, but when I think back to just how different it was I feel older than that. Strange, normally I don't feel old at all but when I reflect on the decades it's hard to not admit I've been around more than a minute. Waves to all my fellow Gen X'ers who grew up with good music!

Now THIS is a summer song! This song brings back memories of sitting on the East Bank of The Flats in Cleveland, OH, sipping a whiskey sour and watching the pricey boats sailing past the dock as this blared on the local Cleveland rock radio station. Good times...

Jay was also in the band Spirit, and their Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus is one of my favorite albums. Natures Way was one of the best from that album, and Mr. Skin is great. The whole 1 st side is fantastic! Jay's voice is incredible.

Great tune! Another one of those songs that does such a great job evoking a time and place that is very specifically the 70's. Crazy fact about him... he writes music for TV shows these days, and he wrote the theme for The Office.

"More Today Than Yesterday" by the The Spiral Staircase. A big one hit wonder you WILL eventually do. A late 60's, upbeat love song (yes upbeat love song), that has horns. You will be singing and be saying the chorus to each other and your kids the rest of the day if not life.

I am shocked no one has mentioned Jay previous to this, was a member of both Spirit and then, Jo Jo Gunne, both damn fine bands from the late 60s and 70s. Spirit was an Incredible rock band that drew on rock, jazz, blues, folk, classical and eclectic elements and had Jay on keyboards and vocals and the amazing Randy California on guitar and also vocals. They peaked in the early 70s with the psychedelic, prog classic, the 12 Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus. An utterly classic album, it did get the acoustic warning 'Nature's Way onto the radio but listening to it all the way through is an amazing musical trip on one of the best of it's kind of that era. Try When I Touch You, that is far more intense and heavier, it is the kind of music Jay Ferguson once was a big part of. When he left Spirit with Mark Andes he formed Jo Jo Gunne, a more conventional 70s hard rock band. Please try Spirit, their I Got A Line On You was their biggest hit and a rocking song. You will not regret checking them out, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
