The last letter that was read said that the prisoner who wrote it thinks the state is profiting off their labor. Its actually worse than that. It is almost certain that the entity profiting from their labor is a private prison company paid by the state. This means that the people of the state are not getting those profits to ostensibly add to the state's ability to help its citizens. It's going to profiteers who are paying their investors with the sweat off the backs of unpaid workers, who can't say no or complain about the horrendous conditions.

What is with these trolls and bots in the comment section. Prison literally should be for rehabilitation and justice not revenge or thinking they're Clint Eastwood killing bad guys in a movie. Nobody should be treated like a slave.

The lack if compassion in the comments is disturbing.

If you paid them minimum wage, the prison would just charge them for rent, security, and other services. They would probably leave prison in debt to the prison. A lot of us on the outside are in the same situation, working just to exist. The whole system is built on the backs of poor workers, either in the US, in China and elsewhere or, in this case, in prisons. People are cruel a$$*&^les. They say "just stay out of prison". Well, people make mistakes, and many people start out in life with problems, from abuse, to being taught negative things. A lot of the crimes people have done are pretty minor. Getting high can put you in jail longer than a murderer.

So, murderers, rapists, and thieves should get a cookie and a pat on the head? Guess what, non-criminals have to work for a living every day. I don't hear you crying about that. If you don't want to go to jail, don't break the law!

The only thing we should be focused on when it comes to prison is false imprisonment and that the punishment should fit the crime. Murderers, and abusers cant be rehabilitated

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Why should we have to pay to keep these people fed, clothed and housed? The way I see it, they are paying for their food, rent, clothing and medical care they receive. Sounds to me like they just want t to sit in Their cells and watch tv… Sorry, but they committed the crime and should have to earn the food, clothing, rent and medical care the rest of us do every day as well!

But what crimes did they commit is the real question we all seen, listened, or experienced victim impact statements. I thinks she worried of ending up there soon

Ka, mala kept non-violent offenders locked up, despite a Supreme Court order to reduce their population, to keep them as labor for the state.
