Όπως αναφέρει σε δημοσίευμα της η ελληνική ειδησεογραφική ιστοσελίδα Πρώτο Θέμα, ο Τούρκος υπουργός Εξωτερικών, Μεβλούτ Τσαβούσογλου, κατά τη διάρκεια κοινής συνέντευξης τύπου, μετά από συνάντηση με τους υπουργούς Εξωτερικών της Ρωσίας και του Κατάρ, έριξε εκ νέου λάδι στην φωτιά, όσον αφορά το ζήτημα του ρωσικού αντιπυραυλικού συστήματος S-400, το οποίο και έχει κλονίσει τις σχέσεις Τουρκίας και ΗΠΑ, και ειδικότερα για την αγορά της δεύτερης παρτίδας του συγκεκριμένου συστήματος, δήλωσε ότι είναι δικαίωμα της Τουρκίας να αποκτήσει συστήματα άμυνας από διαφορετικές πηγές.

Πιο συγκεκριμένα, ο Τούρκος υπουργός είπε τα εξής:
"Θα χρειαστούμε περισσότερα συστήματα αεροπορικής άμυνας και η Τουρκία, ως ανεξάρτητη χώρα, διατηρεί το δικαίωμα να τα αποκτήσει από διαφορετικές πηγές.
Αλλά κανείς δεν πρέπει να επικρίνει την Τουρκία γι' αυτό το ζήτημα."
