Ever since mankind discovered mind-altering substances, some among us have been addicts. The one truth we can glean from years of failed drug policy is that people who want to use are going to find a way to use, usually by developing and abusing more dangerous substances. Harm reduction recognizes that addiction is a problem without a solution, but it can be managed to mitigate its more disastrous effects. I wish more attention were paid to this facet of the opiate crisis.

Over the many years man kind has known of mind altering substances, we have had abusers and addicts. What it can actually accomplish is something incredible. You've likely already seen it if you're here, but Kurzgesagt made a _really_ good video on this and how it was implemented and worked very well in Switzerland in the 1980s; it's called "Why The War on Drugs Is a Huge Failure"
