My grandfather Clay Rowland, a Sioux/Cheyenne in the 1950s told my mom Bertha Beartusk and us kids that he raced Jim Thorpe from the town of Lame Deer to the Muddy Creek turnoff (which is around 5 Miles one way), and he said he beat Jim Thorpe. My Grandpa Clay at that time he told us was the Judge for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. Just thought you might like that bit of tidbit.
