_"OMORI will not succumb"_
Me, using the violin and its bow as blunt weapons: Oh he *will* succumb buddy

OMORI did not succumb.
OMORI did not succumb.
OMORI did not succumb.
OMORI will not succumb.

I realized Sunny plays the role of the silent protagonist for a reason. That videogame trope is usually used to immerse the player's self into the world. The player experiences the love and support of all the people Sunny cares about, only to be hit with the twist that Sunny, and therefore you, are the reason you tore everyone apart. Even if you didn't have a hand in it, didn't _want_ this, Sunny didn't want this either, his single damning action only being led by a misled outburst. This interpersonal connection with Sunny and the player ultimately plays a hand in the final fight. In what would normally have been the question of "Should the protagonist forgive himself for all the harm he's done?", the question becomes "Would *you* be capable of forgiving yourself were you in same position?"

When I realized the answer for me was no, this fight hurt me a lot more terribly.

I just realized something. Whenever Sunny attacks, the battle narration says, "SUNNY attacked OMORI!", like normal. And when Omori attacks, it's mostly the same.
Except for when Omori uses his most damaging attacks in the later phases. Then the narration starts referring to Sunny as just an enemy. "OMORI erases the enemy." Omori doesn't see Sunny as a person, he just sees Sunny as a threat. A monster.

I feel like this game really managed to hit like, a universal trauma.

CHERISH. You remember Mari's request...
"Omori promise me.... that you'll forgive yourself."

An old piano. The word 'Omori' is etched into its surface.

Omori is the piano. Black tank top, white boxers with black stripes. He is missing something. He is an empty piano with no player. The ultimate symbol of what Sunny did.

Sunny defeats him by playing the Duet. The concept of an empty piano, clashing against the concept of a piano finally being played.

Just remember,
Sunny brought a violin to a knife fight and proceeded to win.

the final boss isn’t humphrey.
the final boss isn’t perfectheart.
the final boss isn’t SOMETHING.
the final boss isn’t basil.
the final boss is yourself.

The thing I love about this boss battle is how it's technically impossible to win. You can't completely defeat your demons, and the guilt of what Sunny had done will never disappear. But still, you must continue.

They were 12 years old when they did it. At their age I couldn't keep any of my secrets for more than a week, and I am talking about stealing unimportant things or telling innocent lies, things that I considered to be very bad at that time. I just couldn't avoid telling my parents or my friends about what I did because the anxiety and the feeling of remorse would end up destroying me the more I kept them as secrets, and I am sure that everyone can relate to this.
Now, imagine doing something like what Sunny and Basil did to someone so important not only to them, but also to each and everyone they knew and cared about, and keeping it as a secret for *almost 4 years. 4 YEARS!* Just the thought of what these kids must have been through is ripping my soul appart...

this piece is so uncomfortably comforting.

“you killed MARI. you loved her and you killed her.”

I fucking bawled at that line, this song is so powerful and means so much to me. The boss fight was horrifying but sad and heartbreaking once you think about it.
Sunny is basically FIGHTING with his trauma and trying to get out of that situation and accept what happened. I feel so bad for him, I hope y’all chose the good ending after this!!

"You're nothing but a liar...and when they see the truth...they'll hate you as much as you hate yourself."

Damn. Out of all the quotes from the game itself, this one hit me the hardest.

This captures a panicked and anxious mind perfectly.

something i realized while playing the game: when sunny first appeared, i called him omori, because "it´s basically omori, but in real life". but then i kept playing, and i noticed the differences: sunny´s expression were much more emotional than omori´s, sunny was older, etc... and at the end of the game, when i got to black space and woke up in the real world, i finally recognized sunny as sunny. and that hit especially hard during this fight

I would always close the game every time I got a game over
Imagine how dumb I felt when you're SUPPOSED to get one

Finished the good ending last night. This fight will probably haunt me. The things Omori says to you through the battle are hitting like a truck. It's mean and that's how Sunny think about himself deep down in his mind.
I totally lost it when Omori said "Hero loved her, and you killed her.", because I totally felt that Mari and Hero were in some kind of a relationship.

Fuck this game. I knew something was up but the game's been playing with us the whole time, by letting you play cute sections, funny jokes and sometimes creppy moments. But you were never prepared for this.

That is some great storytelling.

Kings, if your vessel:

- Is black and white
- Is the titular character of the game they’re from
- Is the final boss on a typical player’s first playthrough
- Is known to repress their thoughts and stab themselves
- Has a boss theme with emotional violin music that gets progressively more intense as the fight goes on

That’s not your vessel, that’s OMORI

When this song begins, it portrays all the emotions Sunny would be feeling at this moment.

Shock. Melancholy. Fury. Defiance. Courage.

But as the song progresses, OMORI does not succumb.

OMORI will not succumb.

And we see the emotions that OMORI brings out in Sunny.

Pain. Guilt. Confusion. Sheer terror.

It overpowers those emotions of courage and defiance.

Because despite Sunny’s best efforts, in emotion, music, and battle…

OMORI will not succumb.
