I traveled alone in Hongdae and 2 people, a man and woman, around their 20’s started talking to me. They asked if I was an exchange student and where I was going. I told them I was a tourist (truth) and I had to go meet someone (lie). They offered to eat a meal with me but I said “no, sorry”. I heard of cults in Korea before so I knew I had to avoid them. I dodged a bullet here.

A tip to avoid this (only works on people who have east asian faces):
1. Don’t speak
2. Just walk away when a stranger approaches you and doesn’t give you your fallen item.

The reason is that when we don’t talk, they normally think that you’re a Korean, thus they think it’s no use to try to fool you. Haha.
- this works on me since people never thought that I’m a foreigner when I don’t speak :))
