Sublime music is within reach of beginners. Carcassi Op.60 No.16

Here is one of the more famous studies in this series, and rightly so. It is perhaps one of the easier to play, but when phrasing is carefully thought out it does become more difficult as all music does. A beautiful melody sings above accompanying chords which should be played at a lower level. A really lovely piece of music.
The guitar is Jean Noel Rohe 2009. The strings are D'addario Pro Arte mediums.
Take a look at the website above for video lessons, arrangements and more.

It's listening to lovely performances like this, that are achievable for novices to playing classical music, provides the motivation to keep going. Thanks for this.

Congratulations for your delicate and master playing (so clear and clean) and many thanks for having done justice to Carcassi studies. A very good idea to keep the envy to get practicing when motivation gets down. Your Rohé is still a pleasure to listen. Frédéric

I love the chord progressions in this piece.
Carcassi knew what he was doing.
It would make a beautiful love song.
I read the bit about the rests but I believe a score is just an idea and how it is played must be the player's interpretation of it.
There are dozens of ways to play it each one of course subject to critique.

Thanks for the video. It shows me that even a simple etude for beginners can be played expressively and musically. This will be my new approach to the “routine” practice. Hope to see more videos of this kind. 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

Would love a lesson on this sometime. Looks like you only have done the first few of the Carcassi. I get a lot from your insight into interpretation.

Such a mellow rest stroke with the a finger. Thanks for this tune. I would love to know the fingerings since I am sure it is perfect to produce a legate and clean shifting between positions (together with your skills). Warm regards

Hello David, very nice version. A question if I may: you are leaving the melody line to sustain as long as possible, despite the clearly notated rests. On my own CD, I also play it this way, as I think it sounds better. But I got quite a razzing from Matanya Ophee years ago for "ignoring the written rests; it cost the publisher effort and money to add those rests as engravings and so we have to honour them". But he was a publisher and not so much of a player. So I am curious as to your own reasoning here for sustaining the top bit. Again, a question and not a criticism at all!

At least for me it's hard to get those high notes sounding so clean.
