I dry the tooth, look down the buccal corridor without a mirror to see if there is an undercut, look from the lingual, with the mirror to see if there is any undercuts on the mesial and distal, then I look down from the occlusal with a mirror. The key for me is looking down the buccal corridor at a dry tooth. For some reason when a tooth is wet the undercuts are hidden. I like Mario's trick also.
