Prince Harry and Meghan arrive in Colombia | BBC News

Prince Harry and Meghan are visiting Colombia to support projects aimed at safeguarding young people from online harm.

The couple were invited by Francia Marquez, the South American country's vice president and the first black woman to hold that role.

It comes ahead of a global ministerial conference about ending violence against children which is being held in Colombia in November.

As a Colombian, I am absolutely shocked this so called “vice president” has invited these two to our country! 😡 Colombia, as most American countries, has always maintained excellent relations with the UK. My mothers generation grew up listening with my grandparents, on the radio as Europe battled through WWII. I grew up hearing how my grandfather and my mother had the most respect for England and it’s royal family. I have spent a great deal of time in London as it almost feels like home to me. So it is with a heavy heart, I see two of the people which has caused so much trouble and cast so much doubt on the royal family, being invited on a “royal tour” when in fact they are NOT working royals, at the expense or Colombians tax payers money! Under the disguise of “how Megan has been discriminated by the royal family in the UK” ! 🤨 I am simply shocked at how this business transaction ( because that’s what it really is) has been conducted and the royal family don’t seem to do anything about stoping these two! The vice president is infamous for spending the tax payers money, in frivolous things like these, which bring no benefit to vulnerable Colombians and only looks to rub shoulders with those, she would definitely not have done, had it not been for her actual position. Instead of spending her time and the countries resources on the many needs and difficulties. On top of that, the rhetoric they continue to engage in, is that of spreading and perpetuating the lies they’ve come up about their victimisation by the royal family. I and very many Colombians do not welcome these two and instead see them as personas no gratas 👎🏻
