It's a Dutch 'kwaker' it's bred to lure in wild ducks with the quacking. Cause the wild ducks would hear it being happy and would come and check out what's so exciting!

Some more information!

Only the females are that loud and shrill, male Call Ducks are quieter when quacking and have a slightly rougher sound!

Sometimes a Call Duck can be born with their neck too short to reach their oil gland, and they are unable to waterproof their feathers, leading to a condition called “Wet Feather” if you have a duck with this condition you’ll have to clean them often and their feathers will get damaged more easily.

Call Ducks are small enough that oftentimes they can’t hatch their own eggs, they just don’t fit under their bodies (if it’s a large enough clutch), so Call Duck breeders tend to use chickens to hatch the eggs instead! The ducklings hatch normally, are perfectly healthy, and are similar enough to Chicks that the chicken won’t care.

Other duck facts: technically you don’t need a pond or pool for your duck (you absolutely should but *technically*) you just need deep enough water that the bird can dunk their whole head underwater to keep their nostrils clear. Again, do not keep ducks if you can’t give them a pool.

Ducks, as they are birds, do not have an anus! This means it is literally impossible to potty train them, and they tend to poop every 15-30 minutes. That said there are “diapers” you can buy online if you really need.

Most people seem to know this one nowadays, but DO NOT feed ducks bread, while usually it’s not bad for them, the problem mainly comes when that’s most of what eat. The bread fills up their stomach, but they don’t know that they aren’t getting the nutrients they need, so they don’t eat anything else, and then they can get malnourished and sick. Some things you can feed ducks: chopped grapes, lettuce, peas, cracked corn, dried mealworms, dandelion greens, and chopped strawberries. Make sure you cut the bigger foods up, ducks tend to eat too quickly and can easily choke.

Lastly, ducks are flock animals, and you as a human can’t spend all hours of the day with a duck (unless you can, in which case you’re good). Keeping a duck without another duck is very cruel, so if you plan to have a duck, plan to have 2-3. And if you’re keeping them just as pets and nothing else, I’d recommend all males. They’re very chill, much quieter than females, and don’t lay eggs. (Obviously)
