Like anyone on Christmas Day is sneaking into a Denny’s with no cooks.

I worked for another restaurant that was open 24/7. We still had to shut down and lock the doors for things like pest control and inspections.

My local Denny’s actually closes on holidays like Christmas. And they aren’t 24/7 cause they close at 10pm and open at 5:30/6am ish

The Mad Greek restaurant closed for the first and only time for the funeral of the owner. They had to do the same thing using a big chain and padlock to secure the doors since they had no locks either! The new owner changed a lot of things, including the removal of all the celebrities' photos and a letter of thanks from Judy Garland. I'm sure the family requested all that be returned along with the owners' traditional Greek outfit from his childhood. All that history! RIP sir.

I don’t imagine that the CEOs were working on Christmas Day for the last 35 years

The only 24 hour store I’ve ever been in at a really odd late hour was the LL Bean store in Freeport Maine. I was trying on the famous LL Bean Maine Hunting Shoe (Duck boots) at 3:30am. Shopping for things at zero dark thirty is a lot different than eating in a 24 hour diner type restaurant. People are awake at all hours, hence we eat at all hours. But no one needs to buy boots or a tent at 3:00 am.

I remember driving to a friends house on Christmas Day and seeing Denny’s parking lot full. I was shocked cause I didn’t expect it to be open and to top it off I didn’t expect a full house on Christmas Day. Makes sense considering the tips but I still found it shocking to see it was open.

I like Dennys, I have so many fun memories because of that place. Going out for lunch on day trips with family. Or in my late teen early 20s, when my friends were out all night partying, I could meet up with them at Dennys after working a 3-11:30 shift for fries and cokes. There was an airport bus shuttle service that picked up passengers in a Dennys restaurant parking lot, so we'd grab a bite before a flight. Even the morning after our wedding, my husband took me there for our 1st breakfast as newly weds. What makes me proud to be a Dennys patron was when the CEO advocated for living wages for all restaurant employees.

No one plans to go to Denny’s, you just somehow end up there

its wild that thats something special in the US, when in europe or at least in germany, 99% of people will not work on xmas or get paid significantly more on top of tips when they do.

Been in a Denny’s in Florida in 1991 it was epic to be fair
Now someone actually tried a franchise in Scotland near Braehead a few years back and it failed drastically and I tried it and it certainly wasn’t the same as my memory of the one in Florida 😢

The only time I’ve found a Denny’s closed in 30 years was when one eatery was shot up as a crime scene, renovation, and during Covid-19.
