Meanwhile the brothers that don't hit the gym are built like refrigerators with a suit on.

Ex elder of 14 years. This was a wonderful experience as it helped me wake up 😉. Have baptised son, inactive, hadn’t gone to meetings for a few years, so left the religion and moved on with his life, but lived at home at the time. Started dating a lovely girl and was seen by an elders son. Son tells dad. Elder approached me and said “we are going to mark your son as he has a worldly girlfriend” I say - by marking him you will stop the bros and sis from associating with him socially, well ummm they don’t do that anyway cos he hasn’t been to meetings for a couple of years and inactive. Soooo if you do that how are you going to fulfil the second part of marking, that of “encouraging him at the meetings and on the ministry”, when he is inactive? Elder coughs and splutters and says well we are going to mark him. We appeal to bethel and bethel says (through CO) leave him alone do nothing. Elder says have you had her in your home? I say well it’s a sensible thing to get to know her as a parent. Elders invite me and wife to special meeting at Kingdom Hall and tell me because you have had this girl in your home for a meal we are removing all of your privileges… no answering up, no public prayer, no attendants, no microphones, no reading paragraphs, you get the idea. And memorable words they said “you are going to have to take a bullet for your son”…. Nice. All we did was try to get to know his friend and as I pointed out - they treated me worse than a paedophile. And I hadn’t ruined and scarred someone’s life for good. They didn’t like that either. Great thing is tho I started to wake up, so I should thank them. By the way - he married her 😂😂😂

District overseer who said in front of everybody that my baptism didn't count because I was going to college. My parents got me out of college and I wrote my D A letter. I was shunned, kicked out, etc . . .
If my baptism didn't count : why did everyone shunned me. .?🤔

I got counseling and caught grief from members of the congregation over my appearance. I was very depressed from a young age and wore “too much black” painted my finger nails black. This offended some people. I left when I was fourteen and have never gone back.

I was councilled about going to concerts. I was told that if Armageddon came while I was at a concert, I'd die with the rest of "those worldly people".

i was cancelled for a ankle-length skirt i was wearing - it had a beautiful pattern in bright colours- not neon -more pastels i would say. It was so beautiful, that it was „getting me attention“ -therefore not humble for a christian girl.

That's insane 😂. I was counseled because, despite being a regular pioneer, I went to the beach place with my husband on Sundays (his only day off work) instead of preeching to the countryside, like all pioneers.

Not by an elder but a self centered sister, one day when I told her my son went to Disneyland, she said that place is not right place to go there are too many magical things that’s dangerous. I was just stunned!

I was never consult for anything. They always seem to keep their distance from me . Lots of it had to do that I moved around a lot. They realized that I came in and out as I please and never got to close to anyone. It was my wife my two girls and I. I didn’t get baptized till I was in my mid 40s. I still kept my distance and they seem to shy away from me. I was a busy business man and I think they didn’t know how to approach me 100%. My wife never wanted to joint or my younger daughter. I walked away at the age of 48 and now I am 52. Basically once I saw that A& E special. That clarified lots of droughts in my mind and walked away. Never picked up the phone for any of the elders and they never came around. It think they know better.

First, I was counseled for talking to often about my success at work. Second, that I didn’t qualify to be appointed because I wore a sweater vest in winter under my suit jacket. Third, that I didn’t qualify because I took too much time helping my wife with her children at the kingdom hall.

I was wearing a t-shirt of my favorite football team the New Orleans Saints & an elder had a problem with the nickname Saints, so he counseled me about JWs not believing in Catholic Saints, my response was an eye roll and it's a football team for heaven's sakes

I was councelled about the choices of my hair colour... I had bright red streakes through the front of my hair and my fashion choices which were modest but considered flamboyant lol... My response is Jehovah is not bothered about me being fabulous, he made me this way....Im so glad I left that cult.

I was visiting a congregation and went on a blind date with a sister from that congregation. The next meeting I had an elder come up to me and warn me that this sister and her family appeared spiritual on the surface and I needed to be careful. This elder didn't know me at all I could have been a ped or something. We have been married now 38 years and left the cult 5 years ago. So yea maybe that elder was right:)

I was counseled for going to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990). I was friends with the PO’s son and we had planned to go see the movie. His father had heard that the movie had 60 acts of violence in it and didn’t want his son to see it so he told him “If your conscience will let you see it…” so my friend chickened out. I didn’t. We saw different movies. The next Sunday i was pulled into he back room and told my faith wasn’t as strong as the PO’s son.

They are so ridiculous! 🙄
I was counseled on how short I wear my hair was, in an Elders meeting where they told me that my hair was so short, that some in the congregation were concerned about if I was living double life, as only lesbians wore their hair that short! It did not go well for them, as I told them that 2 white brothers could not tell me how to wear my hair. And if they were going to tell me anything, they should counsel all the sister of color who wear their hair short!!! Imagine the nerve!!! They literally helped me to leave, as they knew the amount of abuse I was suffering at home and they kept tell me how to be a better wife and mother!!!! And that going in service more would help my abusive marriage!!! Best decision I ever made was to leave the cult, get divorced and move on!!! Meet the most amazing man and living my best life ever!!!

I got counseled by an elder that me and a couple of my friends (also JWs) shouldn't go on a trip we were planning out of state. We had booked a straight flight and he was literally worried we would be kidnapped and be forced into a certain slave industry.

We were in our teens but we were responsible for our age.

We still went anyways and were fine lol
