I graduated from Kent State University in 1969…exactly 12 months before the Ohio National Guard entered the campus and, in a moment of fear and lunacy, opened fire on the student protesters, killing four of my former classmates. The thought of a potential president who proclaims that he will send the armed military against our U.S. citizens revives in my mind those horrific scenes, the “song” and the terror that the unthinkable can actually happen once more. I was able to secure two votes from independents today. They were mid 30s. What won them over was Harris's proposal to include independents and republicans in the administration. I kept saying that we have to move beyond this division and work together and that isn't happening with MAGA in charge. They also spoke about their concern about the "camp" talk for enemies. Apparently people are hearing the fascists tones a little clearer these days.

I have pledged allegiance to our flag for as long as I can remember. It was with pride I stood and placed my hand over my heart and recited those precious words.
