Moldova crisis deepens as new president calls snap election

Moldova's interim president has signed a decree calling for snap elections to be held in September.
The move plunges the country deeper into political crisis after months of wrangling between pro-Russian and pro-European politicians failed to form a government.

Just some context: Moldova is within Russia's sphere of interest. Any attempt by Moldova to get closer to the EU or Western Europe in general is going to generate a VERY angry response from the Kremlin. When Ukraine started looking westwards and entertaining thoughts of EU integration Kremlin responded by taking away Crimea and triggering a war in the East of the country. Moldova could face something similar with Transnistria, which is a separatist region armed to the teeth by the Russian "peace keepers".
