TR-707 with Yamaha SPX90 II Reverb and Dbx 166 Compressor

Playing a simple TR-707 pattern with classic Yamaha SPX90 II digital reverb ("REVERB & GATE" program) and two Dbx vintage compressors (Dbx 166 and Dbx 166A).

you have a lot of history there! at the end of the 80's a friend was owner of a TR-707 and I remenber to record a couple of songs with the TR-707 in a Porta One Tascam!

I've got couple of those dbx compressors and they are the best value for money, big boy sound with little boy money.

Sounds really crisp and clean. I do my drums exactly like you do here but with different gear. I would swap out the 166A for a Drawmer 1978 or a Elysia Xpressor. Or even a Wes Audio Dione if you are into 500series gear. All these bus compressors have a dry/wet mix knob for instant parallel compression. You can drive them harder for a more authentic 80's sounding drums.

is it possible to connect the Yamaha spx90 reverb to a Roland tr-8 in order to gate the drums on the Roland tr-8 in hopes of creating sort of interesting synthwave drum sounds?
