The SKINK in War Thunder FINALLY

The Skink in War Thunder is finally here! The Skink is a Canadian SPAA that has been added to the British Tech Tree in War Thunder.

The Skink is a Sherman Hull that has been fitted with a QUAD 20mm turret capable of ripping apart any aircraft that dares to get close. The only issue is, they have to be close because the cannons velocity drops of significantly over great distances.

The Skink was added at 4.7 Battle Rating where it feels a little out of place. You can't damage most ground vehicles from the sides or even from behind making it pretty defenceless against ground units. The good news is, your crew can't be straffed by small calibre machineguns from planes making you at least survivable in that setting.

Overall, it feels a bit awkward to play due to this fact and most tanks that catch you off guard even at range won't have a tough time dealing with you.

Still, it's pretty fun as a fly swatter! :)

Skink fact: In real life by the time it was introduced, the allies didn't even need SPAAs so the Skink became the best possible anti-infantry vehicle

I think the big advantage of this thing is it can actually survive a head-on with most planes, unlike most other british SPAA

Technically, it's on the Grizzly hull, which was a sub-variant of the Sherman built in Canada by Montreal Locomotive Works. The differences were primarily internal, though externally they continued to use the cast hulls even well after the welded hulls came into use.

the best thing about the skink is that its immune to machine guns, low pen cannons and overpressure so planes have to use ordnance to damage you

It's based on the Grizzly I. A licensed built Canadian version of the M4A1.

Solid shot because when the brits did tests the APHE and solid shot did just as much damage and APHE didnt magically explode in a sphere. And APHE has the chance of being a dud while losing mass and penetration performance vs solid shot.

Honestly i like that its at a br were it has a hard time killing tanks. Not all aa vehicles should be good at tank killing.

The Skink is a weird boy in AA terms, but weird in a good way. Yeah, the shell velocity is low, but unlike most AA it can weather most ground fire at the ranges it's fire doesn't effectively reach, and it's often a "bomb or no-go" vehicle for planes to deal with. If it got the same penetration as the Wirblewind's cannons, it'd be absolutely perfect at it's 4.7 BR, but right now it probably belongs a touch lower alongside the Ystervark at 4.3. I mean, it's the same gun as the AEC AA has, right? Just more of them on a better protected chassis.

You shot down the TIS-MA in the first match and the same player came back in an La-7 just to bomb you. Got to love the revenge kills.
I haven't played in a couple of years but when I did I always found any british AA before the Falcon to be worthless. They were super hard to hit anything with and even when you did hit they just sparked and did almost no damage.
Also, it looked like you got 2 assists for the I-15. I didn't even know that was possible.

I guess a good thing about it, and the dual 20mm Crusader AA, is you look like a regular tank from the air, I find occasionally you get some guy trying to strafe thinking you cant shoot back
