If you work in commercial IT you will already know that your IT group only exists to empower your users, the people who actually conduct your business, so they can be innovative, faster and more agile in the response to market changes and to continuously improve their productivity. These things are often grouped together under the broad IT term as things that deliver business value. If your IT department only exist to deliver business value, then it follows that your modernization project will only succeed if it delivers new business value to your organization.

This video then goes on to talk about the four standard things that are usually included on business value lists: more modern look-and-feel, zero deployment with a web browser user interface, support for devices like tablets and smartphones and improved application navigation, and the perception risk with all these items is that they are completely expected and will be taken as a given. These days these things that will only get you to the application modernization starting line.
