The Particle Model – a model which successfully explains much of the properties and behaviours of solids liquids and gases, by modelling them as groups of particles with certain amounts of kinetic energy and intermolecular attractive forces. It is also called kinetic theory.

The three states of matter and their densities can be explained using the particle model. Densities can change as a result of changes of state.
