Attacking Where You Least Expect - Combat Robot Subdivide

Subdivide is my 150g antweight battlebot that hits over top of opponent's armour. This video covers the conceptual design and manufacture from CAD to relaity including the special materials and consideration for manufacturing.

If you're interested in combat robots and want to get involved the is likely a club near you! Many are active on facebook. I attend the Wollongong Combat Robot events in the illawarra, Australia.

You were a few mm away from my battery in that rumble! Really nasty bot, awesome work.

I know it's silly but
this video was very relaxing backround noise to take a nap
positive vibes, calm voice, people laughing and cheering, noise, and smooth music

Ha, that soldering iron bot is a hilarious idea. Would be fun to see it in action.

Coming from a bit of a different robotics competition (FTC), but we fill all of our cable connections with tiny hot glue beads, and/or have tiny 3dp nylon mounts to stop motor and sensor disconnects. Maybe this could help with the weapon motor?

Featherweight and Antweight categories are so fun and wholesome!

I hadn't considered how the rake angle on the weapon combine with the forks to pin the opponent during the hit and avoid a glancing shot, cheers for explaining that.

Hopefully I can avenge my lost flipper motor and the next time my bot appears in a video it wont be entirely as a punching bag 😅

the amount of engineering that goes into these bots is amazing

when machining cfk, keep in mind that the dust is not only bad for you but also for your electronics as it is highly conductive. This might destroy your your cnc and shop vac over time. Just so you keep this in mind

5:59 lol My brain hadn't listened to the values when you said how much these robots weighed and thought that I was looking at 2x6 with fairly large robots but no they are tiny things. Lol

I thought I would throw a couple of ideas out there for you.
1st thing is I don't know why this video was recommended. My past work is logging, and log homes. My biggest hobby is carving wood and rock.
A few cheap items that would make brutal weapons: " Sabertooth" and "Kutzall" both make extreme/ extra course carving burrs for dremel type carving tools and die grinders. They are brutal looking and made of tungsten carbide. There used to be a carving attachment that got banned called lancelot. It's a chainsaw chain wrapped around a steel wheel. I'm sure you could easily fabricate something like that in smaller scale using a carbide chisel tooth chain with rakers filed down.
All those would be fairly cheap and quickly destroy anything they touched.

One trick I used on my drones on filing. Carbon fiber was to do it under runing water kitchen sink so to speak the water in the drain. Just takes the shavings right now on the drain.

Maybe I missed it but how do you limit the N20 motor controlling the arm so you do not go to far and strip out the gears? I know servo motors have stops but how do you tackle this issue with a brushed motor? Thanks!

That hit in the intro was absurdly violent.

This is really cool. The pushing power is impressive. The forks definitely also help with that by lifting up the front of the opponent.

Awesome video! I am so impressed with your robot building ability. I've built some 150g bots and Subdivide is a thing of beauty.

dang..these lil battlebots really are adorable..

Being grabbed by the wires in the rumble was the robot equivalent of being dragged around by the ear 😂

Devastated I couldn't make it - I've got both antweights ready and waiting for the next one!

Is that Angus from Makers muse pulling Poker Face out of the box? Fantastic bot by the way - getting that level of hit out of 150g is great engineering, top stuff.
